Before you invest time and money searching for that second to none costume you've been dreaming of, look no further than Toronto's own internationally acclaimed Theatrix Costume House. With over 45 years of experience, our dynamic production team will ensure you and your entire group are dressed for any occasion.
Founded in 1965 by Mr. Warren Hughes, Theatrix started out as a little shop called "Catherwoods" on Yonge Street within the "hippie district". Over time, the company expanded its theatrical focus and moved its shop to the theatre district on King Street West. Theatrix was purchased by the DeVita family in the 1990's and began to tap into new markets including costume rentals for special events, weddings and corporate promotions. In 2008, Theatrix moved to its current location on Geary Avenue and was purchased by Gina Anki and Mark Manthei in September 2010.
A veteran to the world of theatre, Ms. Anki brings over 30 years of theatrical experience to the company. She is a graduate of Theatre Arts at Sir Wilfred Laurier University and the Institute of Drama Therapy in London, England. She is the founder and CEO of both The Children's Arts Theatre School and CATS Mainstage Theatre Company. Ms. Anki is passionate about maintaining the company's reputation for excellence, creativity and innovation within the field of costume design and rentals.
Ms. Anki has also expanded the already credible talent base at Theatrix to include experienced & talented Costume Designers, Show Coordinators, Wig Masters and a Tailor. While Theatrix has built a solid reputation within the theatre community, its vision is to further develop and better serve the needs of the emerging film and television industries, locally and internationally.
